Bloggers are very important part of online journalism, and over the years firms have make good use of their influence in promoting and increasing sales of products and brand over the years, politicians for their campaigns.
From the period of 2005 the entertainment industry has grown beyond expectations and the wrong set of people have been celebrated for that cause. Wizkid and Co. Might have been the ones dishing out the content but it is the tired less work of the blogging community that has projected the industry.
Ask yourself if wizkid releases a new single and there is no blog to download it, no hype by bloggers and no rating. Will he have a hit like 'one dance and ojuelegba'? That's not all, West Africans are more conscious of the politics in their various countries, we no longer the slave to our leaders like we use to be, we have started speaking out and thanks to these bloggers that have taken the brave step of leading the way and giving us a platform to do so.
We can go on and on about how important the bloggers are but the truth is we don't appreciate them enough like we should do. We judge them by the few money seeking lazy people that involve in fraudulent information dissemination, we call them not credible at the slightest chance we get.
These reasons are why the organizers of West Africa Bloggers Award have come together to celebrate hard working and credible bloggers in West Africa for each year on the big stage. The theme for this year is "BLOGGER TO CELEBRITY" We are taking bloggers away from behind their computer and smartphone to the West Africa stage and present them to the world. The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, (JAMB) has some times ago urged all applicants, both UTME and Direct Entry to re-upload their O’Level results to the portal such as WAEC, NECO, etc. Since this exercise has been going on, many students have been asking when will be the deadline for the re-uploading of students O’Level results to JAMB Portal. As stated by JAMB, there is no specific deadline for re-uploading of the O’Level results to JAMB portal. The deadline is determine by the school a candidate is applying to, like before any candidate will sit for the Post UTME exams in his or her school of choice, the said candidates must re-upload their O’Level results to JAMB Portal before going for the screening. Another question frequently asked by candidates is, Will all candidates re-upload their O’Level result? Yes all candidates both UTME and DE who have submitted their results during their respective registration must still go and re-upload the results again before sitting for their various Post UTME exams.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday, said only candidates who meet the O’ level and A’ level requirements and other criteria set by institutions would be offered admission in 2017/2018. JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, stated this at a Training and Sensitization Forum on Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) for admission offers, candidates and stakeholders on in Abuja.
Prof. Oloyede said: “Scoring higher than the cut-off mark does not guarantee admission but makes the candidate eligible for admission consideration. It is not UTME that qualifies the person. It is O level, A level that qualifies a person for admission.
“That is why you can go from here to UK, you can go to Ghana, Uganda, Republic of Benin, nobody ask you of your UTME, they ask for your O level because by law it is the school cert that qualifies you not JAMB,” he said.
He also warned that JAMB will not tolerate illegal admissions by any higher institution. The body also stated that students admitted illegally won’t be regularised anymore.
“We know that we have abused the process. What we have been doing is to send N5,000 each to JAMB in the name of regularization without capturing their picture, without capturing anything. You pay N5,000 and then they are regularized.
“We have not stopped to do backlog but from 2016 upward we will not allow anybody to do backdoor admission. Anybody that is not properly admitted cannot benefit from regularization.
“You cannot admit anybody under the table. Let us know your problem and let us collectively solve the problem so that you do not need to do such thing.
“We don’t have accurate data because what we have on record is different from real life. We cannot continue to do that. We will protest to the whole world that we have 500 students in our institutions but in reality they are about 1 million but 500,000 thousand have been admitted illegally,” Oloyede remarked.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced an indefinite strike across the country
Once again the future of Nigeria's youths has been plunged into the pool of uncertainty as lecturers have worn their boxing gloves.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced an indefinite strike across the country.
The lecturers took the decision to declare the strike after deliberations at its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the University of Abuja over the weekend.
ASUU had earlier asked its branches to conduct referendum among members on whether or not an indefinite strike should be called.
The Abuja meeting which ended in the early hours of Monday reviewed the overwhelming position of the branches to proceed.
ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi said the strike action is to be a total, comprehensive and indefinite.
No form of academic activities including teaching, attendance of any meeting, conduct and supervision of any examination at any level, supervision of project or thesis at any level would take place.
Ogunyemi said all means of negotiation have been exploited before the decision on an indefinte strike action was reached.
