Xiaomi's next smartphone is a giant, dwarfing even its Mi Note and Mi Note Pro phablets in size. The new Mi Max comes with a 6.44-inch display and a beefy 4,850mAh battery which is both welcome and necessary, given the number of pixels you'll be pushing around every day. It's powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 or 652 processor, as well as 4GB or 3GB of RAM, and 32GB or 128GB of internal storage. The two chipset choices are intriguing most flagships, such as the Galaxy S7, are using the Snapdragon 820, leaving the 652 to mid-range devices like the LG G5 SE.

Spend 1,699 RMB ($261) instead and you'll be upgraded to the Snapdragon 652 and 64GB of storage; the top option, which runs for 1,999 RMB ($307), ups the RAM to 4GB and the onboard storage to 128GB.



All three option are cheaper than what the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro sold for in 2015. Those devices are slightly smaller, however, with a 5.7-inch display and some specs that, even by today's standards, are pretty competitive (they run on a Snapdragon 810, with the option of either 3GB or 4GB of RAM). The Mi Max, then, is likely to be a complimentary device, rather than a direct replacement. It will also sit alongside the Mi 5, Xiaomi's new flagship announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

think every Nigerian can relate to this and it is about time NCC took the right step! According to a report by Leadership, NCC has said they would fine any operator found guilty of sending unsolicited messages or calls to its customers a sum of N5 million. NCC plans to sanction any telco that refuses to implement the shortcode of 2442 for subscribers to opt-in to the “Do Not Disturb” (DND) database restricting unsolicited marketing messages on or before the 30th of June. According to the report

NCC in a letter dated April 19, 2016 warned MTN, Airtel, Globacom, Etisalat, Smile, Natcoms (Ntel), Visafone, Starcomms, Multilinks, Gamjitel, Danjay Telecoms, Gicell Wireless Ltd and Megatech Engineering Ltd that they should implement the DND restricting telemarketing their MSISDNs including the use of web-based solutions as opt-out measures.
The regulator said it shall be mandatory for mobile operators to create sufficient awareness to its subscribers on the existence of the DND on their networks; that they shall also comply with the quarterly and reporting template prescribed by the NCC to ensure feedback and compliance.

Although, NCC has not completely abolished unsolicited messages as they have warned that  generated SMS must comply with the 8am to 8pm stipulation (12 hour period), but subscribers  now have the opportunity to easily opt-out of any messages they don’t want (Which is everything).

Helsinki, Finland is now home to Facebook’s youngest whitehat hacker. Although his last name is being withheld for obvious privacy reasons, a 10 year old boy named Jani found an exploit in Instagram that allowed him to delete any comment that he chose on the popular image sharing social platform. To confirm the vulnerability for Facebook, the child deleted a comment that the company made on a test account. In response, the social giant gave the hacking wunderkind a $10,000 prize as part of their bug bounty program.

“I would have been able to eliminate anyone,” Jani told the Finnish publication Iltalehti, “even Justin Bieber.” Facebook has revealed that the vulnerability was located in a private application programming interface that was failing to check whether the user making an action to delete a comment was the same user who posted it.


Jani says his prize money will go toward football equipment and a new bicycle. He hopes to be a security expert when he grows up, and it seems he’s well on his way. The skills he developed simply from watching YouTube videos allowed him to find a bug in one of the world’s largest social media platforms.

Facebook’s bug bounty program is an ongoing incentive that offers cash rewards to anyone who is able to report and verify vulnerabilities. In 2015 alone, the program paid out $936,000 to 210 researchers with the average payout landing at $1,780. Since its launch in 2011, the program has awarded over $4.3 million to bug-hunting researchers.

For those of you who A) think that Google is a bit too invasive already and B) suffer from “Eye Scream” squeamishness, this article is probably going to be a tough read. A patent filed in 2014 has just been made public that reveals that Google wants to create a device that would be installed literally inside your eyeball.

Forget Google Glass, forget smart contacts. Google is going the whole nine yards with a “device [that] can be installed within a flexible polymeric material shaped to conform to the inside surface of a lens capsule of an eye.” For those of you wondering where exactly that situates the device inside your eyeball, time for a brief anatomy lesson.


The actual outer surface of your eye over your pupil is the cornea. That’s what your contact lenses ride on, and it serves to protect the eye and refract light. Beneath that is your iris and your pupil, and situated just beyond the pupil is the lens, which also serves to refract light but which can, unlike the cornea, change shape to adjust focus. The lens is enveloped in a thin layer of collagen called the lens capsule, and that’s where this device would ride.

The process of insertion might strike some as a bit graphic, as it does involve needles penetrating the cornea. A fluid is injected into the lens capsule to house the device, then the device itself is subsequently inserted and the fluid hardened. Google hopes that a device inserted this way will be able to display content to the user in-focus and would interact with other, less cyborg-esque devices like your smartphone. If you’re wondering about power, the device will collect energy using a “harvesting antenna,” but the details of that component are not presented in the patent.



Although the patent makes no mention of what operating system this “intra-ocular” device would run, since it’s a mobile device made by Google, we’re thinking Android isn’t a stretch. Many are reacting to this patent with squeamishness and derision, but we actually think it’s pretty damn cool. What about you? CNBC interview via Tech Insider , Cook claims that the next-gen iPhones will be so innovative, it will persuade iPhone users to upgrade. In his own words:

“We have great innovation in the
pipeline, like new iPhones that will
incent you and other people that
have iPhones today to upgrade to
new iPhones,” Cook said.

“We are going to give you things that you can’t live without, that you just don’t even know you need today… You will look back and wonder ‘how did I live without this?'”

We all know that Apple has been
standing in the innovation ladder and to what Tim Cooks says:

“We don’t talk about futures as a
company, we are fairly secretive,”
Cook said. “We are incredibly excited about things we are working on, incredibly excited …We have great innovation in the pipeline.”

Yes, talk is cheap, but the last time Cook made similar utterances, Apple had the best fiscal quarter!
