Siblings Beat Up Policeman, Get Bail

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court has granted N200,000 bail each to two siblings who allegedly beat up a policeman and tore his uniform
It was a feisty duel between a policeman, Isaac Akam, and the duo of Michael Oladunjoye (28) and Sephia Oladunjoye (26).
The face-off began after the police stopped their vehicle for a routine search.
During the fight, the duo beat up the policeman and also tore his uniform.
It was the intervention of other policemen at the scene that saved their colleague from the duo.
The incident happened on July 16 at Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos.
Both siblings were subsequently arrested and taken to the police station for further questioning.
They were on Monday arraigned before Ikeja Magistrates’ Court where the prosecutor, Sgt. Donjor Perezi, narrated what happened.
He said that the offence contravened Sections 173 and 348 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, who resides at Church Street, Ayobo in Ipaja, Lagos, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of assault and unlawful damage.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.A Layinka, granted N200,000 bail each to the two siblings.
She also ordered each of the accused to produce two sureties each with evidence of two years tax payment.
The law prescribes three years jail term for assault occasioning harm, if found guilty.
The case was adjourned until August 28 for mention.
